Two dozen fourth season deleted scenes excised from various episodes by the SCIFI Channel before their broadcast in the United States.
It's no secret the American SCIFI Channel cut material from the fourth season prior to its premiere stateside. The reason? More advertising time most likely. Low-quality captures of the missing scene from Slidecage soon popped up on the Internet and confirmed suspicions. Until now, though, it was perceived to be one of just a few judicious edits to the series. As the clip library below shows, however, there were at least two dozen scenes pared down or eliminated for the U.S. audience. These scenes have been shown elsewhere throughout the world, and that's how Earth Prime is able to share them with you.
The truth, though, is that many of these episodes benefit from these edits. Judge for yourself by downloading or watching the scenes below; we've summed up the cuts to the best of our ability. Also, please note that this list does not include scenes that did air in the U.S. but were trimmed later (like the opening sequence of Revelations).
Prophets and Loss
If you need to clip a minute of air time from Prophets and Loss, these two scenes are good places to start. Nothing plot heavy is revealed in the first cut, and the second is just a series of establishing shots of the RadRat compound.
- A powerful swing: The Sliders get an extra glimpse into Oracle World's culture thanks to everyone's best friend - television.
- Green Mile: Thirty additional seconds of the RadRats marching the captured Sliders to their confab with Samson.
Common Ground
Some good dialogue gets cut, but the second and third edits trim more or less superfluous lines.
- Another way: Quinn is hesitant to let Maggie dine with Kromanus (portions of this were shown in the Making Of special that aired on SCIFI).
- Dietary needs: Kromanus doesn't want to disgust Maggie by eating a few human eyes.
- Just following orders: Rembrandt drives home the point that the Kromagg race is merely a thinly-veiled Nazi allegory.
Virtual Slide
- Nuclear-powered?: Some added frustration over Quinn's memory lapse regarding the sliding machine. On the plus side, viewers are treated to the best inside view of the Egyptian timer seen to date.
World Killer
Of all the episodes with cuts, World Killer had the most substantive edits. Four dialogue scenes of varying length were either shortened or excised. Those clips are below.
- Where's Perkins?: The squatters still aren't convinced until the little boy who saw them admits they slid into the basement. Either the kid's first name is Perkins, or Sister Celine prefers to call children by their last name.
- I have a dream: Sister Celine's motivational speech in the Mallory home's backyard gets another 10 seconds of padding.
- Ooooooh!: Quinn's touching prison dialogue with his arrogant double gets deflated with this addtion footage.
- Heart of meat: Maggie lets a zinger fly against the Boss.
Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?
- Erasmus Fizz: This scene, which took place between Colin calling the Sliders and their arrival, features the Morehouse girls plotting their escape to Bora Bora. So useless is this scene, Danny Lux anticipated its cut by scoring no incidental music for it whatsoever.
Just Say Yes
- This isn't working: Sometime between Quinn and Rembrandt detoxing Damon and their arrival at Casa Beaver, Maggie and Colin have another touching discussion about how their massive saturation of drugs doesn't feel right. Another minute-long scene notable for its absence of a music score.
Slidecage
- Absent friends: The infamous lost coda to Slidecage features the Sliders reminiscing about the events the just happened before toasting to absent friends (Jules and Thomas — you didn't think they meant Wade and the Professor, did you?). Even Rembrandt's remorse can't save this scene from being torpedoed by Colin once again calling Quinn "my brother."
Asylum
Some surprising alt-history and added dialogue is restored to Asylum with these two outtakes.
- Strip mine: Maggie reveals a little more information about the supply raid conducted on this parallel world, including the revelation that Montana is a giant pit mine (manta ships run on dinosaur bones).
- Rembrandt/Grace hospital check-up: The extended, uncut version of Rembrandt's final check-up from Dr. Venable. Several edits were made to the U.S. broadcast that shortened this scene by approximately 30 seconds.
California Reich
Five cuts, only one unfortunate. Three of the remaining edits are just scene padding (Quinn walking, Humvees driving, etc.).
- Crawl a little slower: The asian man running from the Stompers at the beginning of the teaser gets to crawl on the ground for a few seconds before he foolishly shows them his family photo.
- A little light: Quinn sets up the Sliders' money troubles, giving added motivation for Rembrandt to look for performing gigs.
- Hum-veeeeee: The eponymous Hummer gets 5 seconds of extra screen time as the Sliders bust Vanessa out of the Condos.
- Waiting in the wings: Quinn comments some more on the nature of power, and those who seek it out.
- Schick for President: 15 more seconds of Quinn walking through the rally in his search for Kirk.
The Dying Fields
Some added insight into Humaggs and Kyra's sudden curiosity regarding her human side. And more Humvee.
- All great civilizations: The corporal's horrible acting probably resulted in this being the first scene trimmed.
- Never ask questions: Jenny Anderson attributes another cliché to the Kromaggs.
- A pity: Jesus, Kyra, aim a little lower next time!
- Expose yourself?: Quinn elaborates some more on familial relationships in an attempt to gain sympathy from Kyra.
